Precise Discussion About the Functions of "Karst Model"

Abstract

Karst researches have great significances in theory and in practice. Karst in China is very rich. The provinces such as Yunnan, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, Chongqing and Hubei are all typical karst areas in China. For the purpose of theoretical study, Hunan is selected as the most typical area of karst in China, for that Hunan province has almost all types of karst landform and nearly all types of the topographic units where karst phenomena occur . Tahe oilfield is a large oil and gas field, very famous in the world, with ordovician carbonate rocks as the main reservoirs. Pores, dissoved fractures, and caves formed through karstification for carbonate reservoirs of Tahe oilfield has the vital effects on researches of the karst in outcrop areas and in basins. Under the guidance of dynamics of karstology, system theory of underground water movement , the theories of hydrogeology and structural geology , and on the basis of field investigation of karst phenomena in Hunan province and the studies in carbonate rock karst in Tahe oilfield of Tarim basin, the functions and the features about karst models are analysizsed. The conclusions are that four types of the functions and two kinds of the features of the karst models. The four functions are as follows, including the multiple types of karst actions, the conspicuousness of karst mechanism, the multiple phases of karst development, and the multiple stages of karst evolution. The two characteristics are the generalization of karst characteristics and the pertinence of karst scale. In this discussion, four aspects of the functions are detailed.
