The Influence of Basement and Crustal Structure on Sedimentary Systems in the Guyana‐Suriname Basin
Abstract
Three main regional tectonic events have influenced the sedimentary systems of the Guyana-Suriname Basin – 1) opening of the North Atlantic, 2) rotational opening of the South Atlantic and the transfer margin, and 3) far-field influence of Andean uplift. This presentation will address each of these events and how they have variably shaped the basin structure and sediment delivery and catchment areas.
