Old Well Rescue: Don't Euthanize, Revitalize!

Abstract

This presentation focuses on workflows to identify good candidate wells for revitalization. Generally, they are marginal wells in danger of being plugged and abandoned (euthanized), quickly diagnose what's keeping their production low, and match-make them with the appropriate services. Ideally, one can revitalize for less than the cost of plugging and abandoning. In addition to presenting a very clear workflow, it also incorporates a ‘quick look ranking tool’ which allows one to prioritize candidate wells. The role of the geologist is re-envisioned, and case studies of success stories are presented.
