Lithology Previous HitEstimationNext Hit From Seismic Inversion and Attributes, Application to the Netherlands Offshore F3 Block

Abstract

A three dimensional model of the lithology distribution represent the main input data when modeling petrophysical properties like permeability, effective porosity and water saturation, which make it possible to evaluate a hydrocarbon reservoir. In this context, processes such as seismic inversion allows the generation of the P-impedance, S-impedance and density, which are the main input data to estimate the reservoir petrophysical properties listed before and additionally a useful parameter used as a lithology indicator, and it is the elastic mechanical properties. Now, to generate a proper correlation between the litho-types defined in the wells (using well logs and core data) with the elastic mechanical properties, a set of crossplots were made where the proper variables were selected to define clusters that have a direct relationship with lithology. On the other hand, based on a set of stratigraphic horizons generated on a different study, a seismic inversion process was carried out generating the output volumes necessary to estimate the elastic mechanical properties. For this particular example, only a set of the elastic mechanical properties and seismic attributes estimated presented an acceptable correlation with de litho-types defined in the calibration wells. Furthermore, the filters (clusters) already generated allowed the definition of ranges in which each one of the nine litho-types previously stated varies. Applications Perhaps one of the clearest applications of the method here proposed is to be able to link the sequence stratigraphy models with the 3D properties and litho-types defined by seismic inversion in order to get a better understanding of a particular reservoir. Results & Conclusions The set of attributes and mechanical properties suggested for lithology Previous HitestimationNext Hit showed to have a nice correlation with the lithology interpreted in the calibration wells. On the other hand, the methodology used in this particular application has proved to be useful for lithology Previous HitestimationNext Hit using seismic and well log data. Technical Contributions The integration of sequence stratigraphy analysis with processes like seismic inversion turned out to be a powerful tool for reservoir characterization. The definition of a particular set of seismic attributes and elastic mechanical properties for lithology Previous HitestimationTop has proved to be suitable as it was demonstrated in this study.
