Onshore Florida Interpretation Utilizing Composited PSDM Seismic Data Integrated with a Mega-Regional Basinwide Gulf of Mexico PSDM Seismic Program

Abstract

The addition of this onshore Florida seismic program merged with previously interpreted onshore/offshore seismic datasets provides for the first time a consistently processed PSDM dataset over the entirety of the Gulf of Mexico Basin. These lines were processed to depth utilizing a basin-wide 3D velocity cube to insure they both tie one another and all previous programs. These new composited lines allow onshore Florida to be integrated into the basin-wide interpretation and provide additional insight into both onshore Florida and to the basin-wide picture. They provide continuous coverage over the length and breadth of the State of Florida and extend north into Georgia across the South Georgia Rift. They allow the Smackover production in Jay Field in the northern Florida Panhandle to be tied to the Lower Cretaceous Sunniland producing trend in the South Florida Basin and when combined with previous seismic programs can be extended across the entire basin, providing an unequaled view of the Gulf of Mexico basin. There are 23 individual composite lines, 7 of which have been merged with offshore Florida lines and provide an unmatched view of the offshore to onshore transition. Over 675 wells with tops were utilized in the interpretation and synthetics were made on 13 wells that directly tie the lines. Common horizons interpreted on the previous programs from the basement up through the Eocene have been mapped and allow mapping over the entire Gulf of Mexico Basin for those horizons. The Mid-Jurassic Unconformity (MJU) can be clearly identified and areas where Triassic Eagle Mills rocks and Paleozoic sandstones are known from well control to be present beneath the MJU have been identified along with potential extensions of those areas. Previously identified sub crops of volcanics and crystalline basement below the MJU are examined and remapped. These lines allow a new look at previously proposed lineaments across Florida and the potential for revisions in the presence or the location of those lineaments.
