Red Sea Crustal Imaging Experiment

Abstract

An offshore air gun seismic survey was performed in the Red Sea during 2011. Saudi Aramco and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) ran an experiment to simultaneously deploy portable broadband seismic instruments onshore and record data for deep crustal studies. The project was divided into two phases: the first phase consisted of deploying 20 portable seismometers in the southern coastal region and in the second phase 30 seismometers were deployed in the northern coastal region of the Red Sea.
