Abstract

The Taurus and Arabian Platform in Turkey contain the Jurassic-Cretaceous organic matter rich carbonates which are deposited in the Neotethys Ocean. The Jurassic Akkuyu Formation in the Anamas-Akseki Autochthonous consists of 200 meters thick organic matter rich carbonates. The formation has excellent source rock potential because TOC contents are ranging from 3.81 to 19.20%. HI indexes are changing from 575 to 756. Maturity levels of the formation are early mature-middle mature because Tmax values are ranging from 431 to 439 oC. Similarly, the Jurassic organic matter rich carbonates were cut by Demre-1 well drilled in the Beydaglari Autochthonous in the southwest of Antalya. The Cretaceous Derekoy and Ballik Formations of Antalya Nappes in the west of Antalya have excellent source rock potential according to former studies. The Cretaceous Karababa (lower section) and Karaboğaz formations in the Arabian Platform contain 30 and 60 meters thick organic matter rich carbonates, respectively. The formations have fair -excellent source rock potential because TOC contents are ranging from 0.50 to 6.0%. HI indexes are changing from 336 to 661. Tmax values are ranging from 429 to 449 oC. Thus, maturity levels of the formation are ranging from early mature to middle mature. There is oil production sourced from the Cretaceous formations in Adiyaman.
