Abstract

The early Permian Gharif Formation is a major producing oil and gas reservoir in the Sultanate of Oman. The Upper Gharif subdivision is known for its continental fluvial depositional environment.

Seismic tools are commonly used for imaging reservoir distribution. However, seismic resolution can be an obstacle for resolving complex sand/shale arrangements. Several attempts at imaging the reservoir distribution in the Upper Gharif were made. Mixed results were obtained governed by the complexity of the channel stacking patterns.
