Lineaments Compatibility with Surface Structures and their Effectiveness in Determining Local and Regional Stresses; in the Area from Middle of Arabian Shield to Western Arabian Gulf, including Bahrain and Qatar
M.M. Hariri1
Abstract
Lineaments are rectilinear features of tonal differences, ridges, vegetation and valleys that can be delineated from satellite images and aerial photos. They may represent weakness zones and/or fractures system within the Earth crust. Analyzing lineament trends, distribution and pattern help in defining and understanding the structural settings of an area and outlining structural features. In addition, determination of lineament trends can help in revealing the possible stress regime/s that produce those structural features in the area.
