Abstract

It is well established that description of petro-physical properties of a geological reservoir can lead to a significant increase in productivity. In this study, the forced changes in petro-physical properties through acid stimulation are considered. Acid stimulation treatments in carbonate reservoirs result in a significant decrease in the well skin factor by chemically dissolving the host rock and increasing its porosity and permeability. This is a reactive transport type mechanism that is still lacking full description and understanding, especially in carbonate porous media where heterogeneities exist over different length scales.
