Abstract

The Lower Cretaceous Shuaiba Formation on the Western Part of the Qatar Arch (Offshore Qatar) is described using modern 3D seismic and well data. Rudist build-ups within the Aptian Shuaiba Formation are a prolific reservoir in the southern Arabian Gulf area. These rudist build-ups were formed along the rim of an intra-shelf basin during relative sea level highstand conditions. The southern limit of this basin is well defined and comprises several major hydrocarbon accumulations. The north-western limit of the intra-shelf basin over the Qatar Arch is less well known. A recently acquired 3D seismic survey in offshore Qatar provided data in the NW of Qatar, in continuation of the previously presented build-up trend by Abdulla, I. A. et. al., 2004.
