Abstract

Technological advances in logging while drilling services have directly impacted the ability of evaluating a reservoir and provide production planning on the foot-by-foot basis. The amount of downhole data processing and data compression required plays a critical role in real-time data transmission while drilling.

A sonic LWD tool that provides high quality real-time sonic semblance image compared to the memory data, and the opportunities it create, in getting this enormous knowledge while drilling. Several Middle East case studies, comparing the real-time sonic images to the memory data in terms of resolution and data quality will be provided. This improved data acquisition process is crucial in allowing the end user to access all the formation evaluation data, thus facilitating real time decision making.
