Abstract

SUMMARY In this study we evaluate the effectiveness of an active drill-rig as a source for multichannel analysis of surface waves. To this end, we compare the dispersion curves computed from data acquired with a weight drop and during drilling. To fully understand the difference between the two sources, we need to make sure that the dispersion curves have maximum possible resolution. To enhance the resolution of the dispersion curves, we use variable scanning offsets for different wavelengths of the evaluated frequency and phase slowness, as proposed by Park and Ryden (2007).
