Abstract

A salt-drilling exploration well was drilled in the Arabian Gulf on an offshore island of Abu Dhabi, UAE. The salt position and geometry was not clear because of sparse 2D surface seismic lines. Gravity survey predicted salt face to be North of the well head, however just prior to spudding the well, a surface core for soil mechanics indicated that the salt intrusion was not to the extent defined, and it was to the South of the well head, changing the objectives of the VSP.
