Several geometric seismic attributes enhance our ability to detect discontinuous features in seismic data such as faults, fractures and channels. However, since they are based on derivatives, they are sensitive to noise and minor perturbations. This paper introduces the concept of the Redundant Wavelet Transform (RWT) and its applicability to edge-preserving random noise suppression prior to seismic attribute computation. We will demonstrate how RWT was used to successfully suppress noise in synthetic and real seismic data along the reflectors while preserving major structural and stratigraphic discontinuities.
