2D Seismic Lines Reprocessing Using Pre-Stack Time Migration: Case Study of the SolimõEs Basin

After the discovery of hydrocarbons in the maritime basins, the exploration of hydrocarbons in Brazilian land sedimentary basins had reduced their investment and today presents relative lack of information. In most cases there is low seismic data coverage or they are old and were processed using obsolete techniques. The Solimões basin can be considered an exception among the Paleozoic basins in terms of coverage and has reasonable quality of lines. In economic terms this basin is now producing oil, near the river Urucú (discovered in 1986) and gas close to Juruá river (discovered in 1978). The objective of this work is to present the results of 2D seismic lines reprocessing of the Solimões Basin, which were applied modern processing techniques for improve the quality of seismic image on data acquired in 70/80 decades.

Besides economic issues, one of the reasons for the poor quality of seismic data of the Brazilian land basins is attributed to strong presence of magmatism, which without proper treatment can damage the imaging of seismic because of the high speed of wave propagation in these rocks. In the case of the central portion of the
Solimões Basin, there are three sills of diabase with a total thickness of the order of 800m. Despite the difficult of imaging, these sills had an important role in history for the generation of hydrocarbons.

The methodology of the seismic data reprocessing followed one sequence which final products were sections pre stack migrated on time domain (PSTM). The reprocessing gave emphasis on static correction (first break pick and residuals), parameters applied to recover the amplitudes, deconvolution, process to reduce the noise and three velocity analysis. The results show final sessions with high quality and resolution, better signal/noise relation mainly below the second door-sill, delivering relevant benefits to the interpreters.
