The Characteristics of Fault
Accommodation Zones and Its Significances in Petrolum Geology in Gaoyou Depression, Subei Basin, China
The fault
accommodation zone is a significant geologic structure which regulates the kinematic equilibrium in tectonically deformed zone. Four big
fault
accommodation zones are identified in Gaoyou depression, namely Zhenwu-Wubao synthetic-overlapping
fault
accommodation zone, Zhen 2 inside

synthetic-collinear

antithetic-collinear
fault
accommodation zone. Study of the sedimentation, tectonics and oil & gas pools of Gaoyou depression shows that the synthetic
fault
accommodation zones are apt to form water systems, with various sedimentary fans and structural traps developed, and are close to the oil-generating center, so they are places of main oilfields in Gaoyou depression. While antithetic
fault
accommodation zones, forming uplifts of low amplitude normally, are not favorable to oil and gas pooling for absence of water systems and sand bodies, and long distance from oil-generating centers.
