ABSTRACT: Impact of 4-D Seismic Reservoir Monitoring in Schiehallion Field UKCS
Following the successful 1999 4-D (time-lapse 3D)
programme and the powerful impact it had on both
reservoir management and well planning, acquisition was
repeated during the summer of 2000. Data was acquired
over 390 km2 of Quad 204 in the UKCS Atlantic Margin.
The data covers all three BP operated West of Shetland
producing fields, Schiehallion, Foinaven and Loyal. The
business case for the programme was based on the
successful application of the 1999 data for;
a) Reservoir management. Qualitative comparison of the
4-D seismic amplitude difference data with the reservoir
model pressure predictions and well performance.
b) Identification and optimisation of infill producer drilling
locations by identifying un-accessed compartments.
c) Identification of infill injector locations by identifying
unsupported flow units and producers.
The explicit application of the data together with the direct added value assured the partnerships support for the 2000 programme. (Parr 1999)
This paper describes the Schiehallion experience of using 4-D and summarises the impact it has had on the wider BP community. The success of 4-D in Schiehallion and other UKCS field has lead to a more general application of the process.
