ABSTRACT: Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Project of Riau Province, Sumatra, Indonesia

High resolution hyperspectral and radar data was acquired over the Riau Province, Sumatra, Indonesia from July to December 1999 covering an area of 31,000 square Km. Objectives of the acquisition of high precision hyperspectral technology combined with radar information were to analyze surface patterns for vegetation and to use the information for the community development of the Riau Province. The airborne system flown in the study area has the unique capability of acquiring information with an optical imaging spectrometer and synthetic aperture radar simultaneously from the same platform. Georeferenced and co-registered data acquisition of numerous electro-magnetic radiation wavelengths and synthetic aperture radar is achieved in one flight path. The control system uses a state-of-the-art on-board real time workstation. The data are recorded and distributed later to a ground processing computer center for final processing, interpretation and generation of GIS products as required by operational applications.
