Abstract: 3-D Seismic Revives Kings Bayou

HOLLIDAY, JAMES C., and DAVID A. NOLLSCH
Shell Oil Company, Houston, TX

Shell and Union Pacific Resources have drilled seven successful gas wells in 11 attempts based on their 3-D seismic survey of the greater Kings Bayou area in southern Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The 3-D seismic data helped resolve complex structure, explained apparent stratigraphic inconsistencies, and identified several amplitude anomalies, thereby defining significant exploration and development opportunities in a mature area. Newly discovered recoverable volumes of 65 BCF have been found in Lower Miocene reservoirs increasing field production from 0.6 MMcfd in 1993, prior to the acquisition of the 3-D survey, to 41 MMcfd. This new-found gas has revived a dying field and returned it to full production capacity.
