Abstract: Fungal Composting Processes for Polyaromatic Hydrocarbons

MUNNECKE, DOUGLAS M. and KAREN HUYSMANS, Environmental BioTechnologies, Inc.

EBT, in a technology development program sponsored by the US EPA Emerging Technology Program and the Electric Power Research Institute, screened over five hundred fungal cultures and identified selected fungi that can effectively degrade both low and high molecular weight polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). This research led to the development of a fungal soil treatment process which was able to degrade PAHs in soil over a 59 day period.
