Abstract: Late Jurassic Sedimentation, Eastern Sierra Madre Oriental, Mexico

C. J. Schlaepfer

Outcrops on the eastern side of the Sierra Madre Oriental and subsurface data from the Tertiary Chicontepec basin show (1) a transgressive pattern in Late Jurassic sedimentation of coastal and nearshore deposits of identical facies at different age levels; (2) a gradual lateral change in environments indicated by a well-defined succession of sediments, from continental red beds to pelagic organic muds. Relations between nearshore and offshore sedimentation give evidence of shelf conditions.
