The Physical Planning Organization in Egypt conducted a regional
geotechnical study to develop Egypt within the period 1992- 2017. This
multidisciplinary scientific approach included geophysical and geological
land
use maps on scale 1: 2, 000, and 000 as a base. This geotechnical study covers
natural hazards, mineral resources, petroleum production and potentialities.
Topographical and engineering geological impact on
land
use maps. Groundwater
and geothermal energy resources and potentialities are discussed. Geological
tourism is suggested. Natural hazards include historical and instrumental
seismicity, forthcoming climatic changes and expected changes in sea level etc.
GIS was used to add these layers in addition to the multidisplinary scientific
layers as infrastructures, social and population studies, economics etc. to
achieve
land
use and physical planning maps for Egypt 2017.
