Abstract

The productivity of complex reservoirs of heavy is driven by rock quality. Therefore, a precise description of lithotypes allow to design better completion and production strategies. In particular, the well-known province of giant oil-in-place in the southern Llanos Basin is characterized by the presence of heavy oil accumulations in the so-called T2 Previous HitreservoirNext Hit, traditionally referring to the "basal" sandy interval of the Lower Cenozoic. Based on the new data, the previous T2 Previous HitreservoirNext Hit model with a single flow unit was changed to a new model with 3 different flow units of different ages and rock properties, separated by unconformities. These distinguishable rock intervals provided a model of a stratigraphic accumulation bigger and older than previously thought, and facilitates new and more effective completion strategies for these heavy oil fields.
