The Next Paradigm Shift in Land Acquisition

Abstract

Over the past five years it has become more and more evident that high density recording is able to bring substantial improvements to the resolution and signal to noise ratio of land seismic data.

All the evidence points to the promise of even further improvement as we increase the density. However as the channel count looks set to break the one million barrier, the challenge of achieving such density at affordable cost appears daunting indeed. The only way to meet the challenge will clearly involve a rethink of the complete seismic value chain, involving automation from design to acquisition, to processing and to interpretation.
