Abstract

MaxG Basin Temperature Modelling

TGS

A new methodology for basin temperature modelling has been developed that utilizes a large amount of properly indexed and QC’d bottom-hole temperature data for a basin or area. To construct the temperature volume, we first define a curve (depth varying function) that depicts the envelope of the Previous HitmaximumNext Hit bottom hole temperature cloud for each major lithostratigraphic unit to define the interval geothermal gradient. We then construct the temperature volume by stacking the interval geothermal gradient layers for the basin or area. We can apply a lithologic thermal conductivity Previous HitshiftTop to the interval geothermal gradient layers to more closely approximate formation temperature, if necessary. Results for the Delaware and Midland Basins are shown.
