Shell and Union Pacific Resources have drilled seven successful
gas wells in 11 attempts based on their
3-D
seismic survey of the greater
Kings Bayou area in southern Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The
3-D
seismic
data helped resolve complex structure, explained apparent stratigraphic
inconsistencies, and identified several amplitude anomalies, thereby defining
significant exploration and development opportunities in a mature area.
Newly discovered recoverable volumes of 65 BCF have been found in Lower
Miocene reservoirs increasing field production from 0.6 MMcfd in 1993,
prior to the acquisition of the
3-D
survey, to 41 MMcfd. This new-found
gas has revived a dying field and returned it to full production capacity.
