Abstract: Tectonic Relationship between the Kruja and the Ionian Zones

PRENJASI, ENGJELL, VULLNET XHANGO

Geological Survey data, seismic data, gravimetric data and several dry wells data are the basic information on the transitional area from the Kruja zone to the Ionian zone.

The tectonic relationships between the two mentioned zones are treated in some former works, but the negative results of several wells turned out that the conclusions drawn from them do not approach reality. Consequently, it is necessary to perform a synthesis of the data obtained along the area in question, beginning from the Albania-Greek border in the south to the Albania Offshore (Rodon region) in the north.

Comparison of structural facies features and tracing of longitudinal faults in the area between the Kruja and the Ionian zones, brought about the following conclusion:

Transitional character of the flysch and carbonate deposits, the lack of a solely remarkable longitudinal thrust between two zones, and the presence of an eastward-eroded anticline (Leskoviku), as well as westward anticlines (Ishmi, Rova, etc.), prove obviously that the transition from the Kruja to the Ionian Zones is generally gradual.

On the other hand several carbonate structures overlain by flysch, such as Rova, Paper, etc., are highlighted as the main oil prospects of the area.
