Abstract: Spatial Distribution of Reservoir Properties Using Previous HitSeismicNext Hit Attributes Correlated to Log Properties

Ken Dickerman, Ed Caamano, Roopa Gir

Reservoir description maps have traditionally been generated using Previous HitseismicNext Hit data in succession with well log data. Integrating well logs with Previous HitseismicNext Hit maps in a separate step is not taking advantage of all the information contained within a 3-D data set. This paper describes a technique that statistically correlates Previous HitseismicNext Hit and log data to produce integrated maps of reservoir frequencies with increased resolution and confidence. The procedure involves first matching 3-D Previous HitseismicNext Hit with borehole Previous HitseismicNext Hit data. Then a statistical correlation is attempted between Previous HitseismicNext Hit attributes including amplitude, impedance, velocity, etc., and log properties such as porosity, water saturation, net to gross, bulk water volume, etc. at the well intersections. A multivariant function of the correlations is hen derived. This function is applied to Previous HitseismicTop data to produce reservoir property maps. This technique has been applied to 3-D data from Indonesia. Results and problems in estimating the functional relationship are discussed.
