ABSTRACT: Hydrocarbon Prospectivity of the North Grand Banks, Offshore Newfoundland

CZARNECKI, M., N. DE SILVA, W. DOHEY, J. MCINTYRE, and I. SINCLAIR, Canada-Newfoundland Offshore Petroleum Board, St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada

Reglonal geophysical studies and mapping over the Grand Banks region of the Newfoundland offshore area have been carried out by C-NOPB for the last few years. A series of geophysical Previous HitmapsNext Hit of regional markers has been constructed in the area between lat. 44-50 degrees N and long. 46-50 degrees W. The regional Previous HitmapsNext Hit have been compiled from in-house C-NOPB mapping using seismic sections and the well data and Previous HitmapsNext Hit submitted by the industry. Study and mapping covered: Carson-Bonnition, Jeanne d'Arc, Flemish Pass, and NE Newfoundland-Orphan basin. Bathymetry, Previous HittimeNext Hit Previous HitstructureNext Hit, isopachous, isochronous, gravity, and stratigraphic sequence Previous HitmapsNext Hit were constructed at a scale of 1:250,000. The package of geophysical Previous HitmapsNext Hit available from the C-NOPB office provides a framework for both regional and pros ect identification and should be useful in a wide range of studies. As a result of C-NOPB geophysical regional studies, a map showing hydrocarbon prospectivity of the Grand Banks has been constructed. This map shows where the reservoir and mature source rocks are most likely to occur along with the major plays.
