We present the initial results of research aimed at describing reservoir heterogeneities in a fluvio-deltaic environment, followed by modeling. The study was made in the Scalby Formation, Middle Jurassic, in the United Kingdom; the formation offers great variety in type and size of sandstone deposits. Its complexity is similar to several fields in the North Sea.

We give first the lithologic and lithostratigraphic interpretation of the 2-D study performed on a 1 km-long and 30 m-high cliff. This section provides the basic data for the 2-D geostatistical conditional simulations. The 3-D study is based on 36 cores 30-50 m long, which were drilled behind the cliff with 11 immediately behind them to provide unambiguous correlation with the 2-D observations. We will present the correlations between the cores and the major changes present in the sedimentological interpretation in view of the core data.
