Facies Distribution on the Nile Cone and the Eastern Mediterranean Basin

Late Quaternary facies of the Nile Cone were treated to study their distribution of sediments, their texture, and the heavy mineral contents. The samples used for the study were taken from piston cores obtained by R/V Chain during the 1975 Nile Cone cruise. The available materials represent only the lower ends of the piston cores. The mud, carbonate, and heavy mineral distributions are constructed and interpreted for the Nile Cone and the eastern Mediterranean neighboring physiographic provinces. Moreover, late Quaternary sedimentation of the Nile delta is discussed. The biofacies of the eastern Mediterranean basin studied from 15 thin sections is further investigated.
