Abstract: COST B-2 Well (Baltimore Canyon) and Its Relation to Scotian Basin
L. F. Jansa, G. L. Williams, J. A. Wade, J. P. Bujak
Independent biostratigraphic, lithostratigraphic, and reflection seismic studies have established correlations between the COST B-2 well and the Scotian basin. Upper Jurassic strata, below 13,400 ft (4,084 m) in the B-2 well, correlate with the Mohawk Formation on the Scotian Shelf. Marked similarities also are observed between the thick overlying Lower Cretaceous clastic sequences in both areas. The Upper Cretaceous lithologies differ somewhat, but close correlation again exists in the Tertiary. This overall similarity of lithologies reflects similar tectonic histories and depositional environments in the Canadian and United States North Atlantic margins during much of Mesozoic to Cenozoic time.
