Abstract: Coccolithus pelagicus: Clarification

Previous HitDavidTop K. Totten, Jr.

Variations (species) of Coccolithus pelagicus are common in nannoplankton floras from both warm- and cold-water sediments. These species can and should be used for stratigraphic paleontologic analyses: Coccolithus pelagicus (Wallich); C. carteri (Wallich); C. pliopelagicus; C. cf. C. pliopelagicus; C. miopelagicus; and C. eopelagicus (Bramlette and Riedel). A sequence of datum planes are suggested herein which are based upon the first and last stratigraphic presence of the various species.
