Abstract: Pre-Ferry Lake Early Cretaceous Deltas of South Mississippi and Producing Trends

Dale Reese

Increased gas prices have renewed interest in the deeper part of the Mississippi salt basin. Rejuvenated exploration has resulted in significant gas discoveries, notably Bassfield field (Hosston), Jefferson Davis County.

Drilling has indicated that productive development extends farther southward into the basin than previously believed. The problem of determining the downdip limits of commercially productive sand development is similar to many other Gulf Coast plays.

Sand-facies maps determine the productive fairway from available well control. Pre-Ferry Lake Cretaceous sands were deposited in low-energy Previous HitdeltaicNext Hit Previous HitenvironmentsTop.
