Abstract

Opportunity A brief description of the opportunity The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) will host their 2017 Annual Conference and Exhibition in Houston, Texas between April 2nd & 5th. Chevron is a diamond sponsor and strong supporter of AAPG as a reputable industry society and organization. Chevron has been asked to make a 40 minute talk/presentation in the AAPG Discovery Thinking Forum on the Gorgon Area exploration and development history. The Discovery Thinking Forum focuses on the science and professionalism of the earth science discipline especially related to Global Hydrocarbon Discoveries. In the Discovery Thinking Forum a formal paper or presentation is not required. However, the plan by the authors is to primarily use power-point material that has been previously used in public papers and presentations to illustrate the key points. Recommendation Who is the recommended speaker? Who is the recommendation endorsed by? Mike McLerie is recommended by Phil Bateman (Gorgon Subsurface Manager) and Peter Korsen (ABU Technology Manager) Note/ * David Sibley will be relocating to ETC in Houston in February 2017 & would be available to co-present. Business Case How will the opportunity support the strategic objectives of the company? What benefits will it deliver? The presentation & talk will highlight Chevron's technical capabilities and promote Chevron as ‘operator of choice’ and showcase the Gorgon Project as a major accomplishment. Background Brief overview of the organisation, the event, previous history with Chevron and any other relevant information. The AAPG hosted annual conference and exhibition is a recognized industry forum in which to present and learn about the newest geophysical and geological techniques and practices. It is well advertised and attended an opportunity to showcase technical capability and credibility within industry, academia and government. In 2017, AAPG celebrates its 100th anniversary and wants to celebrate and showcase significant discoveries and achievements.
