As pad drilling expands and laterals are drilled in stacked pays and also with closer spacing, reservoir optimization becomes a concern. The presentation reviews current challenges of costs and steep decline curves, and proposes a workflow for identifying pay stranded between or alongside laterals, and for integrating techniques and technologies to economically produce the often inadequately drained sweet spots. The presentation represents a synthesis of current practices, along with a discussion of pros, cons, and potential.
