The Importance of Geomechanics in Stimulation of Shale Plays
Daniel Moos
Baker Hughes Technology Fellow, Baker Hughes Corporation
This talk will address the role of geomechanics in design and execution of stimulation in shale plays. It will highlight some of the issues that a geomechanical analysis can help to address related to designing, conducting, monitoring and predicting the results of stimulation and discuss some of the unanswered questions, for example, what is the relationship between the locations of microseismic events and the shape and size of the connected stimulated fracture network. The talk will examine examples, including the Vaca Muerta.
