The middle Cretaceous Wara Reservoir in Burgan oil field was deposited above the Maud-dud limestone and is capped by the Ahmadi shale. The reservoir has an average thickness of about 250 ft, a porosity ranging from 20 to 30% and an average permeability of about 500 md. Visual and microscopic analysis of core and log data revealed that the reservoir sand-stone was deposited essentially in a mixed channel levee complex with channel systems consisting of stacked multistory bodies in places.
This presentation captures the spatial variation of rock types based on the log-derived effec-tive porosity data. Based on these data maps were prepared for three major units that repre-sent different depositional environment: Wara Upper, Wara Middle and Wara Lower. The findings, constrained by episodic tectonics, helped define reservoir complexities and the underlying drive mechanism.
