Changbei gas field is located in North Shaanxi Province, Ordos Basin, China. The large and thin tight reservoir is characterized with low porosity(5.2%), low permeability(0.7mD), low formation pressure(buried depth 2850m and pressure 27.3Mpa), thin effective formation(average<15m), high Net to Gross and no edge and bottom water. Vertical well with propped fracture treatment was the conventional way for field development. The average well production was about 50,000m3/d. Based on Changbei reservoir characteristics, a single and dual lateral well with 2000m horizontal section for each leg has been selected to develop the field. Drilling commenced in August 2005. By end Aug. 2007, six wells have been completed. The drilling outcomes have broken records on horizontal reservoir section length for onshore development in China and for the highest single gas well productivity(over 1.3mln m3)in the Ordos Basin.

Chuanzhong gas field is located in the center of Sichuan Basin. The reservoir is characterized with thick sandstone formation(about 250m), low porosity(3.96%—9.99%), low permeability(0.09—0.36mD), and high water saturation (61.3%). Propped fracturing was applied to the vertical wells(Proppant can be 200—320ton each job). The average well production is 50,000m3/day, which is about 5 times of that of the conventional fractured wells in this area. The production of some new wells can be as high as 100,000—200,000m3/day.
