Chevron subsidiary (CABGOC) drilled the Landana North #1 (LDN1) discovery well in September 2005. Landana North is the latest discovery within the Tombua-Landana Development Area in Block 14, Angola. LDN1 was drilled from the adjacent Lobito Field subsea center in approximately 1300' of water. The LDN1 well was drilled to a total depth of -9,680' TVDSS (16,758' MD) and encountered 145 feet net of good quality 34° API oil bearing sands full to base. Reservoir sands were deposited in slope-valley turbidite channels of Lower Miocene CN3 age. These channel deposits form a structural-stratigraphic trap with the channel draped over a southeast extension of the Lobito-S2 anticline.
An appraisal well (LDN2 and sidetrack) was drilled in March 2006 and confirmed oil on the eastern extension of the Landana North reservoir. In the east, a higher oil water contact (OWC) is present than on the western side of the structure. Differences in OWC can be explained by structural / stratigraphic compartments, or by trapped (ponded) water analogous to the adjacent Lobito reservoir. Other uncertainties remain including velocity, net / gross, and connectivity between upper and lower zones.
Production at LDN1 began in June 2006 at about 8,000 BOPD. This is the first production from the Tombua-Landana project through the Benguela-Belize-Lobito-Tomboco facilities.
Chevron is the operator of Block 14 with a 31% working interest. Other partners include Sonangol, Total, Eni and Galp.
