Abstract: Gas and the Global Market

The International Gas Union (IGU) estimates total world gas reserves in excess of 400,000 bcm, and forecasts that annual world gas consumption will expand from currently 2,200 bcm to between 3,200 and 4,000 bcm by year 2030.

The presentation will highlight the importance of natural gas for development of flexible and highly distributed energy systems.

The importance of natural gas as the least environmentally harmful fossil fuel and as a bridge to an expanded future utilisation of biomass based gases will also be covered.
