Abstract: Stratigraphy of a Syn-Rift, Tide-Dominated Delta: The Beryl Formation, Quad 9, U.K. North Sea.

Summary

The Middle Jurassic Beryl Formation of Quad 9 is the major productive horizon for four North Sea fields. It has a complex stratigraphic record which has historically made reservoir prediction difficult. The formation was deposited within a sand-prone, tide-dominated delta system and displays considerable thickness variations related to syndepositional extensional faulting. Using an integrated dataset consisting of sedimentological, reservoir engineering, biostratigraphical and structural information a predictive model has been established by combining different local stratigraphies in separate field areas to develop a depositional and sequence stratigraphic model for the entire Beryl Embayment.
