Abstract: Facies Architecture of The Tensleep Sandstone Bighorn Basin, North-Central Wyoming

AVIANTARA, ALEXANDER A., Department of Geosciences, The University of Tulsa

Summary

The study has completed three main goals. Parasequence stratigraphic architecture of the Tensleep Sandstone was performed by correlating and mapping the Tensleep Sandstone in terms of the eolian-marine parasequences architecture across Alkali Creek, Ziesman Dome and Cold Spring areas and across Byron and Bonanza Fields. Correlation of the Tensleep sandstone parasequences across the outcrop study area was recorded using Sokkia total workstation theodolite survey. Facies architecture and reservoir heterogeneity was determined by analyzing parasequence contact, bounding surface, stratification types, facies/subfacies architecture including distribution, geometry and continuity, and integrated with petrophysical data. Eolian bounding surface distribution was analyzed to establish a new scheme for the bounding surface that has been applicable to the study area. Intraset geometry was analyzed from either outcrop or subsurface data for establishment of a new bounding surface scheme.
