Abstract: Seismic stratigraphy in the region of the Dunajovice and Novy Prerov gas fields in the Carpathian Foredeep near the Czech-Austrian border

Low prices of oil during the last several years required re-interpretation of existing data in already explored areas with minimum investments for additional exploration. A special project of re-evaluation of 2D seismic data was launched in the area of the city of Mikulov, where two gas fields have been discovered by the Moravian Oil Company (MND) so far. This project is carried out at the Universities of Geneva and Lausanne, in collaboration with MND, and following an agreement with the Czech Government.

The detailed study in the Mikulov area is based on a regional interpretation including all seismic profiles between the Czech-Austrian international border (SW) and the Vranovice Graben (NE), covering an acreage of some 400 sq. km. The study of all available analyses, well logs and seismic material of this region resulted in new velocity maps and detailed interpretation of seismic profiles. It allows for one to distinguish seismostratigraphic units within Karpatian and Eggenburgian (Lower Miocene) clastics, etc.

This study is an application of modern interpretation methods to data covering approximately a twenty-year period of hydrocarbon exploration. Most of the seismic lines were evaluated with the Schlumberger Charisma interpretation station, using the original processing of Geofyzika Brno.
