Abstract: Paleothermal History Reconstruction is a Basis for Modeling of Conditions of Hydrocarbon Generation

PRISCHEPA OLEG M

It is of first importance to know most accurately the paleotemperatures for carrying out kinetic modeling of different geological periods.

Paleothermal characteristic of a source rocks of Timan-Pechora basin (RUSSIA) has been calculated on a basis of reconstruction of paleodepths and determination of the modern geothermal gradients for different deposits. These data were compared with the data determined by vitrinite reflectance measurements. As a rule the latter temperatures were higher within zones of inversion development and strong horizontal strain.

The temperature distribution map of main source rocks in the initial and ending stages of tectonic activity was created as a result of reconstruction and modeling. The time of the greatest hydrocarbon (HC) activity was determined also.

It was found that the non-coincidence in time of main phase of HC generation and the time of formation of accumulation zones together with HC preservation possibility in the pools causes the complicated distribution of oil and gas fields.

These investigations make it possible to predict HC phase composition at unexplored objects, also to differentiate possible zones of oil and gas accumulation.
