Web Resources for the Petroleum Professional - A Virtual Tour

SARE, VICKEY P. and ROGER M. SLATT

Resources on the Internet for the petroleum professional have increased rapidly over the past year. As resources increase, finding the most useful sites becomes a time-consuming chore. The Rocky Mountain Region of the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council has developed a hands-on virtual tour of cyberspace to aid geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists, petroleum engineers, and landmen in understanding and using the World Wide Web.

Stops on this tour include tutorials on using a wed browser, how to find useful Web sites with search engines, subscribing to newsgroups, downloading data from the Internet, connecting to the Internet, and making an informed choice of Internet service providers.

In addition, many useful Geoscience related sites will be presented, including sites containing free petroleum software, map resources of the USGS, Kansas Geological Survey on-line Oil and Gas Atlas, the newsgroup sci.geo.petroleum, on-line earth science journals, and global library collections. Bring along your own PC disk and take Bookmarks to your favorite sites home with you.
