The Formation of Cenozoic Basins Offshore Kalayaan Drp
QIAN GUANGHUA, FAN KAIYI
Offshore Kalayaan Drp area, mainly consisted of Kalayaan mass, located in the junction among Pacific plate, Indo-Australia plate and Eurasia plate and bounded by divergent oceanic crust to the north and northwest, and Kalimantan convergent landmass of late Paleozoic to the south, east Vietnam strike-slip fault to the west and the northeast is the subduction zone of Manila trough. Kalayaan area is characterized by complex tectonism.
Based on new regional seismic interpretation data, many Cenozoic sedimentary basins are identified within Kalayaan Drp and surrounding areas. The delineation of the basins is made mainly according to Paleogene sequences (major source rock) combining with regional tectonic evolution and basin classifications.
