How Business Objects Catalyze Interoperability

BURNS, MICHAEL

Industry and enterprise interoperability within the Oil and Gas Exploration and Production industry can be greatly aided by the development and acceptance of a human and machine readable business model. The reason for this is rooted in the way we observe and understand the world we do business in and how we have applied computer technology to that business. The establishment of such a business model is shown to be the application of object-oriented analysis and design methodologies and a natural step in the evolution of the application of computers to the business. We demonstrate how this business model can serve as a formal specification of requirements exchanged between the business practitioner, the data modeler, and the application developer. And lastly, we show how the business model can catalyze the development of more advanced forms of applications, and facilitate the accommodation of changes in business practices.
