Abstract: Structural and Stratigraphic Resolution of the Permian Minnelusa Formation with 3D Seismic Data at the North Rainbow Ranch Field, Powder River Basin, Wyoming

Peter G. Smith

A small vibroseis 3D seismic data set in the Powder River Basin was collected over an existing oil field. The resulting survey was interpreted by integrating extensive subsurface control with existing 2D and 3D seismic data. The initial frequency content of the 3D data set was disappointing, making temporal resolution of potential Minnelusa Sandstone reservoirs difficult Amplitude information was unreliable for porosity estimation due to destructive interference. However, additional post stack processing appears to hold promise for improved resolution of the individual sands, and a greater contribution to future development efforts.
